Golden
State have moved to 13-0 in one of the best season starts in NBA history, with
a huge come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples
Centre.
Andrew
Bogut's Warriors, who were down by as much as 23 points in the second quarter
and behind at every break, blitzed the Clippers during the fourth quarter to
win 124-117.
On
a great day for Aussies in the NBA, Matthew Dellavedova also tallied a career
high for Cleveland.
Reigning
league MVP Steph Curry dropped 13 final quarter points on his way to 40 for the
night to lead all scorers as the Warriors netted 73 per cent of their shots in
the final term.
Curry's
play overshadowed that of Clippers guard Chris Paul, who also turned in a huge
game, dropping 35 points on 13 of 22 shooting, Blake Griffin backing him up
with 27.
Curry
was far from happy with his own performance.
"I've
got to be a lot better than I was tonight," he said.
"The
stats looked good but I've got to play better.
"My
teammates got on me and I had to rectify the situation and we did that in the
fourth quarter."
Curry
also revealed he felt the team could do better and that they put themselves in
a losing position.
"No
matter how bad we are playing our goal is to always have a shot," he said.
"It's
going to be ugly some games, it's going to be fun some games but we have to
make plays down the stretch and we did that tonight."
Where
the loss leaves the Clippers, who were vocal in the pre-season about how they
could beat the Warriors, is anyone's guess as they slumped to a 6-5 record.
The
win makes the Warriors just the fifth team to start a season 13-0, putting them
behind the 2002/03 Dallas Mavericks and 1957/58 Boston Celtics (14-0) as well
as the 1993/94 Houston Rockets and 1948/49 Washington Capitols (15-0).
As
they chase the record the Warriors will next play the Chicago Bulls in Chicago
before going to Denver to play the Nuggets.
In
Cleveland Dellavedova was dishing out some tasty treats for his Cavaliers
buddies, giving 13 assists - the biggest total of his career as well as scoring
seven points as the Cavs beat the Milwaukee Bucks 115-100.
LeBron
James scored 27 points and Kevin Love added 22 points and 15 rebounds in the
win but coach David Blatt had much praise for the Aussie, who in the absence of
Mo Williams started and played 38 minutes.
"Delly
was pretty good for us last year. I don't know if suddenly he has morphed into
something that he wasn't last year," Blatt told reporters who asked if
Dellavedova had improved dramatically over the off season.
"I
remember him giving us a lot of good games and starting in the NBA finals where
he scored 20 points in one of the games.
"What
I liked about Delly's game today is he made simple plays and made them at the
right times and helped his team run and win.
"There
is always a place for Delly to play on this team because of the intangibles he
brings."
In
the day's other game the Miami Heat beat the lowly Sacramento Kings - who were
missing star centre DeMarcus Cousins - 116-109.
