Golden State have again overcome a
determined opponent as they inch closer to NBA history, defeating the Chicago
Bulls 106-94 at Oracle Arena.
The win lifts the Warriors to 14-0, tying
them with the 1957/58 Boston Celtics (14-0) and 2002/03 Dallas Mavericks.
Illustrating just how well the Warriors are
playing, the 57/58 Celtics roster included future NBA Hall of Famers Bill
Russell, Bob Cousy and Bill Sharman, while the 2002/03 Dallas side contained
two men who would become league MVPs in Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash (twice).
In a tight game, the Warriors were again
led by Steph Curry, who traded threes with Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich through
the middle of the fourth quarter to helped his side a 92-89 lead with just over
five minutes left on the clock.
From there the Warriors never looked back.
While Curry again topped the scoring with
27 points it was Golden State's defensive pressure down the stretch,
particularly that of Draymond Green that was vital as the Warriors outlasted
the Bulls.
Curry was quick to praise the defensive
effort.
"Defensively we did our job and that's
where we make our money," said the reigning MVP.
"They play hard, they play physical,
we matched it tonight and got a win."
They even did it with defensive weapon,
Australian centre Andrew Bogut sitting through much of the final quarter.
Next up for the Warriors, as they look to
tie the best ever start to a season (15-0) are the Denver Nuggets in the mile
high city, and should they win that they will look to be on their own when
hosting the Los Angeles Lakers on November 24.
In other games, the surging Dallas
Mavericks continued their hot streak, defeating Utah Jazz 102-93, Dirk Nowitzki
scoring 19 and hitting all three of his attempts from beyond the arc.
New Orleans recorded just their second win
of the season, shocking the San Antonio Spurs 104-90 as Ryan Anderson let loose
for his second straight 30-point game.
Patty Mills chipped in from the bench for
the Spurs with 11 points on a night where only Kawhi Leonard (22) and LaMarcus
Aldridge (20) got it going for the Texans.
Aron Baynes' Detroit side continued their
positive season start, breaking their Minnesota hoodoo with a 96-86 win over
the slumping Timberwolves as centre Andre Drummond dominated the glass yet
again with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Baynes also grabbed 11 boards in the win
and added six points.
The Toronto Raptors beat the Lakers 102-91,
Portland made it two losses on the trot for the LA Clippers with a 102-91 win,
Memphis beat Houston 96-84 and Phoenix kicked off a long road stretch with a
114-107 win over Denver.
In a good sign for the Eastern Conference
the New York Knicks achieved a rare win over a Kevin Durant-less Oklahoma City
93-90, despite 34 points from Russell Westbrook.
Boston continued their good start to the
season with a 120-95 result over Brooklyn, while Charlotte dropped the hapless
Philadelphia 76ers to 0-13 with a 113-88 belting.
