Charlie Sheen will reveal his HIV-positive status on the US Today show today, People have reported.
The speculation, which was originally put forward by the National Enquirer, is accompanied by an interview with Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman. He told the publication the following: ‘The interview could open up a lot of sympathy for him, but he has to be concerned about a fear of litigation from former sexual partners. You don’t take that lightly. It’s been going on for quite awhile. He’s not necessarily comfortable talking about it. It was very hard to get up the courage for him to talk about it.’
Howard also added that he feels a lot of sympathy for the actor: ‘I feel very sorry for his pain. And I hope it’s used as a teachable moment for the world. This is a disease that can affect anyone.’
The Two and a Half Men actor, once the highest-paid actor on television, was fired from the show following a row with the creator, Chuck Lorre. He has become known in Hollywood for his wild lifestyle, spending time in rehab for drugs.
If the speculation about Charlie’s illness is confirmed to be true, we hope that, through bravely speaking out about this terrible diesase, Charlie can at least raise public awareness to support sufferers around the world.
