Strictly’s Peter Andre has revealed in a Radio Times interview that his father was ‘sold as a slave’ as a child in Cyprus during World War 2.
Peter went on to explain that his 82-year old dad, Savvas Andrea, came from an improverished background. “There were 13 kids and they had no food, no money. So some of the kids had to be sold to earn money for the family. And then Dad came back after years. I didn’t know this until recently. And I said, “Dad, are you serious?” And he said, ‘Yeah, but son, that was our life.’
He also said that he owes his hard-working attitude to his dad, who built a life for him and his family in Britain before moving to Australia: ‘So Dad’s determination, what Dad’s achieved in life, is incredible. He came to London not being able to speak a word of English, learnt a trade – he became a barber – and he still owns a barber’s shop in Paddington.’
The Mysterious Girl star recently revealed to Lorraine Kelly on her morning television show that his choice to sing an old-fashioned style of music on his ‘Come Swing With Me’ tour has made his old man particularly proud. Aww!
Peter is very close to both his parents, Savvas and Thea, posting a photo with them to his Instagram recently capitoned: ‘Mum and dad celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary :)) My love for them is too much for words.’ His strong family values explain why he is such a great husband to his wife Emily, and a doting father to kids Princess, Junior and Amelia.
We’re so sorry to hear about the hardship experienced by Peter’s dad – but inspired by this wonderful story of how Savvas turned his life around for him and his family, including lovely Peter!
