According to a recent report from Greek website Sport FM, Tottenam Hotspur sent scouts to watch Greek midfielderKostas Fortounis in action against Northern Ireland in their Euro 2016 qualifying match on Thursday night.
If that is true, Tottenham fans should be very excited about the prospect of the 22-year-old ultimately arriving at White Hart Lane, because while a lot of players are linked with a potential move to Spurs these days, Fortounis is the real deal.
At just 22, the attacking midfielder has made a name for himself in his homeland by scoring five goals and providing four assists in just six league games so far this season.
And if that does not convince Tottenham fans he is worth a punt, his two assists against Arsenal in the Champions League last month just might.
Fortounis started his youth career at Olympiacos before moving first to Asteras Tripolis and then Kaiserslautern but he would return to his first club in 2014 and he has not looked back since.
Last season the alleged Tottenham target scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 37 matches for Olympiakos, switching between roles on either wing and playing more centrally, but this season he looks like bettering that record with time to spare.
In just eight matches in all competitions to date Fortounis has scored five goals and set up six more and given his age, innate talent and potential to improve, he is a target Tottenham fans should hope becomes more than just a regular in the rumour mill.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy loves signing young players with considerable sell-on value and Fortounis certainly fits the bill. The question is: Will Spurs be able to get him ahead of the numerous other clubs no doubt interested?
