The World's Largest Sailing Yacht Costs Only $400 Million

This behemoth is Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko's newly-built Sailing Yacht A, or as it is soon to be christened: the White Pearl.
Not to be confused with Mr. Melnichenko's 394-foot Motor Yacht A, the White Pearl is 438 feet long, a staggering 300 feet tall, and weighs 14,224 metric tons. The massive vessel is operated from a black-glass-panel touchscreen on the bridge and the diesel-electric engine can get to yacht up to a swift 24 mph. A gigantic single piece of curved glass, one of the largest ever made, was designed for the keel. There are eight decks, one with a heli-pad, and even an underwater observation room, because a mobile aquarium is really what a mega yacht should be.
The cost of such a pleasure barge? Only about half a B: 260 million pounds or roughly 400 million dollars.
Built by Philippe Starck in the German Naval Yards, The Pearl recently set sail for its first sea trial. "Not since the days of mighty clipper sailing ships such as the Cutty Sark has such a large sailing vessel been built," Benjamin Maltby of MatrixLloyd, an authority on superyachts, told the Daily Mail. Of course you don't have to be an expert to see that this thing is stupid huge
