Australian
goalkeeper Mathew Ryan is having surgery for a meniscus injury in his right
knee sustained when playing for Spanish club side Valencia.
"After ending
the game against Deportivo la Coruna with some pain, Mathew Ryan will on Monday
go under the knife to undergo an arthroscopy due to a medial meniscopathy in
his right knee," Valencia said in a statement on their website.
Ryan posted on his
official Twitter account: "About to undergo arthroscope to fix meniscus.
With some luck be back fit in 4 weeks. Look forward to coming back
stronger."
The star goalkeeper
was scratched form the Socceroos squad after receiving the injury on Sunday.
The 23-year-old
will miss Australia's World Cup qualifiers at home against Bangladesh on
Thursday and away to Tajikistan on September 8.
He is also expected
to miss Valencia's first two Champions League matches at home to Zenit St
Petersburg and away to Lyon.
