Stuttgart's Australian goalkeeper Mitchell Langerak will miss the start of the Bundesliga season after pulling his hamstring in training.
The Socceroo only joined Stuttgart last week from Borussia Dortmund, but faces four to six weeks on the sidelines.
Langerak is not likely to be fit for Stuttgart’s opening Bundesliga game of the season against Cologne, or their DFB-Pokal first-round fixture with Holstein Kiel a week earlier.
“Injuries always come at a bad time,” Stuttgart coach Alexander Zorniger said. “But Mitch is a positive lad and he’ll fight his way back quickly.”
His loss is Przemyslaw Tyton’s gain. The Polish goalkeeper was also signed this summer and Zorniger had previously refused to name his No.1 choice.
The 28-year-old will be given a few games to prove he should be Zorniger’s first-choice custodian and leave Langerak on the bench when he is fit again.
Stuttgart sold their previous keeper Sven Ulreich to Bayern Munich this summer.
