Sampdoria are reportedly close to finalising the signing of the free agent Georgios Samaras after coming to an agreement with the former Celtic forward.
The Blucerchiati were also interested in Atalanta’sGerman Denis and another free agent in Antonio Cassano but it is unlikely that Samp will make moves for either with the Greek international set to arrive.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, an agreement is in place between the Ligurian side and Samaras but the Blucerchiati are waiting to navigate their firstEuropa League qualifier against Vojvodina before wrapping up the signing.
Samaras is expected to sign a two-year deal with Sampdoria with the option of extending the contract for a third year if both parties wish.
Samaras has failed to settle since leaving Celtic and he only made eight appearances for West Bromwich Albion before his employment with the Baggies was terminated by mutual consent.
The Greek striker also made 11 appearances in all competitions for Saudi side Al-Hillal but the player reportedly struggled to adapt to life in the Middle East.
