Wellington Phoenix have signed former Sydney FC striker
Blake Powell to a one-year A-League contract.
Powell, 24, will arrive in Wellington later this month.
He had two seasons with Sydney FC between 2012-14 and was
part of their Asian Champions League squad before losing his place following a
knee operation.
This year he has played with NSW club APIA Leichhardt,
scoring 21 goals in 16 games.
Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick says the striker has the
technical ability and speed to add depth to his squad.
"He hasn't been signed as a No.1 striker and will have
to earn his place, but I have a good feeling about him," he said.
The club has an option to sign Powell for a further year if
he impresses in the New Zealand capital.
