Andy Keogh has walked out on Perth Glory as the
fall-out from the A-League club’s salary cap scandal continues.
The West Australian understands Keogh and the Glory had been
attempting to renegotiate the financial terms of his contract, due to expire at
the end of next season, after undisclosed payments to the 29-year-old and five
other players saw the club fined and banned from the finals last season and
fined $269,000.
Sources indicate the two parties had been unable to agree on
a new deal, with talks abandoned yesterday.
Keogh, who scored 12 league goals last season, is likely to
be of interest to rival A-League clubs, with Asia also a possibility for the
former Republic of Ireland international.
The loss of Keogh is another blow for Glory coach Kenny
Lowe, who has lost first-choice keeper Danny Vukovic, Scott Jamieson, Youssouf
Hersi, Daniel De Silva and Jamie Maclaren since the end of last season.
The club’s signings include veteran keeper Ante Covic,
Antony Golec and Hungarian international Gyorgy Sandor, but it will enter next
season with far less firepower than in the 2014-15 campaign.
Keogh proved a revelation for Glory last season, playing all
27 league games and having a major role in the club’s promising early-season
form.
However, his off-field behaviour brought unwanted attention
after he was arrested alongside teammate Josh Risdon in February for disorderly
behaviour outside an Adelaide nightclub.
