South Melbourne Hellas to open FFA Cup

South Melbourne Hellas return to the national football landscape will kick off this year's FFA Cup round-of-32 fixtures.

In a first for the competition, every mainland state and territory will host matches over a three-week period beginning at the end of July.

The former National Soccer League (NSL) champions were drawn against Gold Coast-based Palm Beach and will travel north for the July 29 fixture.

With Palm Beach's local Mallawa Drive ground having inadequate lighting for a broadcast, the match has been shifted north to Cbus Stadium at Robina, home of the defunct Gold Coast United.

Balmain Tigers and Western Australia's Sorrento will also host broadcasted matches against Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC respectively.

A week later, John Aloisi's debut as Brisbane coach will also be broadcast live, though the scheduled away fixture is yet to have a confirmed venue.

Only Tasmania misses out on hosting Cup action, with sole representative South Hobart given a tough away assignment against former NSL powerhouse Sydney United 58.

Darwin Olympic will host Cup holders Adelaide United on August 5.
