International Champions Cup: A.S. Roma to arrive in Melbourne on Wednesday

Fransesco Totti, Daniele Di Rossi, Gervinho and Ashley Cole headline a full-strength AS Roma squad that will land in Melbourne on Wednesday night.
The Italian giants will be the second team to arrive for the International Champions Cup, joining Real Madrid in town, their opponents for the tournament’s opening game at the MCG on Saturday.
Coach Rudi Garcia’s 32-man travelling squad, most of whom returned to pre-season training last week, also contains the likes of Brazilian defender Maicon, Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, Greek Center Back Kostas Manolas and midfielder Vasilis Torosidis and the club’s leading Serie A goalscorer last year, Serbian Adem Ljajic.
Aussie young gun Daniel De Silva will also link with his new teammates for the first time in Melbourne, having officially made the switch from A-League side Perth Glory.
De Silva said it would be a dream come true to make his club debut against Madrid.
“If I come on against the likes of Ronaldo and I’m only 18 years old, it would be unbelievable to make my debut against those teams,” De Silva said.
“It’s been a long time coming but now it’s very close, there’s only a couple of weeks until I leave (for Italy). It’s starting to hit home, but I’m really excited about what the future has in store.”
