Adam Lallana’s prized Liverpool shirt should go to Adelaide United’s new signing George Mells after the clash of the Reds at Adelaide Oval on Monday.
The $42 million valued striker was a teammate of the 18-year-old at Southampton before making the move to Liverpool last year.
Mells who idolised the attacker at the Saints said he was hoping to meet Lallana and a more ex-Southampton players when they land in Adelaide this week.
“I know the ex-Southampton players people like Lallana, (Nathaniel) Clyne, Rickie Lambert,’’ Mells said after Reds training at the SA Athletics Stadium on Monday.
“I actually know them quite well I actually cleaned Lallana’s boots when I was an apprentice at Southhampton so it will be good to play against him because I always looked up to him.”
Lallana is the club’s second most valuable signing touring with Liverpool behind captain Jordan Henderson who has a market value of $58 million.
Raheem Sterling — the club’s most expensive player — pulled out of the touring party at the last minute Sunday before penning a $102 million deal with Manchester City.
There is a very slim chance Sterling will join City at the club’s Gold Coast pre-season training camp and it’s unlikely the England international will face Adelaide in a locked doors friendly on Wednesday afternoon.
