AC
Milan won 2-0 away to 10-man Sampdoria from M'Baye Niang and Carlos Bacca
efforts on Thursday to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup.
Lazio
also advanced, bouncing back to defeat Udinese 2-1 earlier in Rome.
Frenchman
Niang opened in the 50th minute storming off a defence-splitting pass from
Bacca and firing low into the far corner.
Sampdoria
then had Ervin Zukanovic dismissed on 63 minutes for protesting after being
booked, and Bacca stunned Emiliano Viviano from inside the box in injury time.
"We
knew it was important to win after two draws (in the Serie A league),"
Niang said. "We wanted to do it because it was good for the fans and for
the club."
Lazio
held the upper hand at the Stadio Olimpico, but fell behind in the 67th minute
as substitute Panagiotis Kone deftly controlled a high cross and sent a
drooping shot past Etrit Berisha.
Alessandro
Matri levelled, finishing a hammering attack three minutes later, and Danilo
Cataldi headed in on 79 minutes after Alex Meret managed to parry a shot from
Abdoulay Konko.
Lazio
are to welcome holders Juventus as Milan take on Carpi and Napoli host Inter
Milan in the quarter-finals set for January 20.
Serie
B side Spezia and third-division Alessandria also qualified, eliminating Roma
and Genoa respectively.
