GERMANY midfielder Sami Khedira has joined Champions League runners-up Juventus on a free transfer from Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old World Cup winner, who has penned a four-year deal, has been hit by injuries in the last two years and barely featured for Real last term.
He will officially join the Italian champions on July 1 after his contract at Real ceases.
His arrival will fuel speculation that veteran Juve playmaker Andrea Pirlo will quit Serie A to move to the United States, or potentially to the A-League, with Sydney FC poised to offer him a marquee deal.
Pirlo was in tears after Juve lost 3-1 to Barcelona in Saturday’s Champions League final.
Khedira, known for him calming presence in the centre of midfield, played five seasons at Real having signed from hometown club VfB Stuttgart but a serious knee ligament injury in November 2013 knocked him down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.
He returned for the 2014 World Cup, where he played five games, but was injured again just before Germany beat Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Media reports say Juve will pay him 4 million euros ($A5.9 million) a year.
Juve secured a fourth straight Serie A title and lifted the Italian Cup this term before missing out on a treble with defeat to Barca.
The Bianconeri have already signed Argentine forward Paulo Dybala from Palermo for a fee of up to 40 million euros.
