Yousouf Hersi has become the first contracted Perth Glory player to leave in the wake of the club’s salary cap scandal.
Hersi, who missed most of the season after a severe hamstring tear, gained a mutual termination of his contract with the club.
The experienced attacker, who played just eight games for the club after moving from Western Sydney Wanderers, announced his departure in an Instagram post.
“Hi all, Unfortunately the club Perth Glory and I have decided in a mutual decision to spread ways,’’ Hersi wrote.
The 32-year-old regained fitness towards the end of the season following hamstring surgery.
He had hoped to return before the finals but he was unable to be restored to Glory’s squad and was forced to watch on, in part due to the salary cap saga.
A Glory spokesman confirmed Hersi had been released but said no other contracted player had been released from his contract at this stage.
