Swansea beat Arsenal 1-0 on Monday in a game that would have ended 0-0 without goal-line technology.
.A stagnant first half gave way to a frustrating second for Arsenal, since every shot they took ended up in the arms of former teammate Lukas Fabianski. Then, in the 85th minute, a Bafetimbi Gomis header appeared to be saved by David Ospina, but even referee Kevin Friend was surprised when his goal-line technology watch informed him that it was, in fact, a goal.
Arsenal players tried to protest, but Friend just pointed to his wrist and shrugged, as if to say, “If the watch says it’s a goal, it’s a goal. The watch is a fair and just ruler. We must obey its decision.” And television replays showed that the watch was definitely correct.
