Brazil's New Miss Bum Bum makes history

The quest to find Brazil’s best bottom has crowned its first black winner. Samba queen and model Erika Canela was selected at the winner of the annual Miss BumBum competition during the final at a Sao Paulo nightclub. Erika reportedly said she was very happy to “show the Brazilian beauty”. “I was very surprised,” she said. “I am very happy and grateful to my mother, who voted for several mornings”. Ten million people cast votes online for the 15 finalists, Fox News Latino reports. Plastic surgery is allowed but not on the bottom area – with some candidates providing x-rays to prove their buxom buttocks are real. The Miss Granny Bumbum winner was Dona Geralda, 64, a former Brazilian Big Brother contestant. It was the sixth time the contest has been held but the competition has again been plagued by controversey. Sparking debate again over the objectification of women, the contest also triggered headlines when contestants posed in a mock Last Supper photo to promote the competition last month. Organiser Cacau Oliver defended the poster. “We’re not offending the church, this is just a staging,” Oliver reportedly said. Canela was the first black winner, The Daily Star reports, and takes home 50,000 reais (about £12,000)
