Young Perth footballer dies after mid -game collaps

A 29-year-old footballer has died in hospital after collapsing during an amateur league game in Eden Hill last Saturday.
The Bassendean Amateur Football Club player was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital on February 25 but died five days later, on Friday.
Nine News Perth reporter Lee Steele said the man collapsed during a WAFL C grade scratch match at Jubilee Reserve against Ellenbrook.
"This player collapsed just after half-time and we understand that a trainer and two players gave him CPR until paramedics arrived," she said on Monday.
"It was 39 degrees in Perth at one point on Saturday and the league said its heat policy was enacted for all matches over the weekend, so that means reduced quarters and increased break times."
The incident occurred on the same day the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles competed in a pre-season game in Geraldton, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees.
At the time, BOM spokesman Neil Bennett tweeted, "It's simply insane to play in conditions like this".
The cause of the man's death, and whether it was heat-related, is not yet known.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
In a joint statement, the WA Football Commission, WA Amateur Football League and Bassendean Amateur Football Club issued their deepest condolences to the man's family, friends and teammates.
"The Commission, League and Club will continue to offer their support to the player's family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time, while respecting the privacy of all concerned," it read.
The WA Amateur Football Club again enacted its heat policy this weekend with temperatures reaching 36 degrees on Saturday.
It posted the heat policy notice on its website and Facebook page on Friday.
"The maximum forecast for Saturday 4th March 2017 is to be 38 degrees. Accordingly, scratch matches need to be completed before 11am or commenced after 4.30pm.
"As these may be inter/intra club scratch matches, the format of these matches are at the discretion of the respective clubs. Consideration should be given to reducing the length of quarters or halves, additional rest breaks and increased playing squads."
