The Brazilian opened his tally for this year’s competition after just 14 minutes, turning the ball home on the rebound after goalkeeper Daniel Margush spilled Ramires’ initial effort. Teammate Li Ang had already hit the crossbar following a set piece scramble minutes earlier.
The game turned further in Jiangsu’s favour with 20 minutes remaining when a goal from Adelaide captain Tarek Elrich was correctly ruled offside. The Chinese side immediately countered with Teixeira cutting in from the left to beat his man and fire the ball past the helpless Margush. Adelaide earned a 92nd minute consolation through an Eli Babalj header but it was too little too late for the Australian side.
The result leaves Jiangsu topping Group H with six points from their first two games in the competition, with Adelaide yet to register a point from their two matches to date
