Katerina Stefanidi wins 1st place in pole vault at Millrose Games

On February 11, Olympic gold medalist Katerina Stefanidi won first place in the pole vault competition at the NYRR Millrose Games at The Armory.
Stefanidi renewed her rivalry with Sandi Morris. Stefanidi won with a vault over 4.82 meters, thus setting a season's best in the sport. The Greek Olympian cleared 4.82 meters on her first attempt, and even set the bar at 4.92 meters (which would have been a new personal best for Stefanidi), which she attempted three times with no success.
Stefanidi left Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris in second place, where she cleared 4.72 meters on her third attempt. As a result, both female pole vaulters achieved the same positions that they did at the 2016 Olympic Games that were held in Rio de Janeiro: gold for Stefanidi and silver for Morris respectively.
The women's pole vault at the 2017 NYRR Millrose Games yesterday was named in honor of John Catsimatidis, a Greek-American philanthropist and businessman with interests in energy, real estate and the supermarket industry.
