Bayern Munich scored three goals in 10 minutes on their way to completing a 5-1 mauling of a woeful Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Alexis Sanchez scored after Manuel Neuer had halted a penalty as Arsenal levelled on 30 minutes to cancel out Arjen Robben’s stunning opener on 11 minutes.
But Arsenal lost captain Laurent Koscielny to a hamstring strain early in the second half before the roof caved in with Robert Lewandowski heading home on 53 minutes to give Carlo Ancelotti's side the lead.
Thiago Alcantara helped himself to two more goals on 56 and 63 minutes to leave Bayern firmly in the driving seat with a 4-1 advantage.
Thomas Muller came off the bench to complete the rout with a fifth goal on 88 minutes.
The return is at the Emirates Stadium on March 8, but it looks a mere formality for the German champions as more question marks are raised over the future of Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.
