Alligator drags two-year-old boy into lagoon

A TODDLER was dragged into the water by an ALLIGATOR at one of Disney’s premier resorts - despite his frantic father’s desperate attempts to save him from the reptile’s jaws.

The alligator clenched its jaws around the two-year-old boy and pulled him into the Seven Seas Lagoon near the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando.
Police have launched a major search of the waters for the missing boy and crime-scene tape has been put up around the waters.
Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rose Silva said the toddler was last seen at 9.30pm (local time).

The parents and their three children had been relaxing on the beach at the time of the attack
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said: “The father entered the water and tried to grab the child but he was not successful in doing so. I'm told that at some point, the mother also entered the water.

As the child played in the water with his mother the alligator, thought to be between four and seven feet long, pounced.

The frantic family alerted a nearby lifeguard who made desperate attempts to save the child to no avail.

Mr Demings went on: “As they waded into the water along the lake’s edge at the time, that’s when the alligator attacked.
“We are not leaving until we recover the child. As a father, as a grandfather, we are going to hope for the best in these circumstances but based on my 35 years of experience, we know that we have some challenges ahead.”

A Disney spokesman added: “Everyone here at Walt Disney World is devastated by this tragic accident.

“Our thoughts are with the family. We are doing everything we can help law enforcement.”
