Struggling
champions Juventus failed to switch gears as Chievo held them to a 1-1 home
draw on Saturday to go top in the Italian Serie A.
Juve
boss Massimiliano Allegri rested Paul Pogba and Giorgio Chiellini to give way
to new signings Hernanes and Alex Sandro, with Claudio Marchisio returning from
injury to produce a fast-paced start.
Juventus
were stunned though in the fifth minute on the opponents' first effort on goal
when Finnish Hetemaj pounced on a loose ball outside the box and smashed it
into the right corner to freeze the Juventus Stadium.
Juve's
best chance went begging on 57 as Pereyra's low drive came off the post and
Pogba had his sure-fire shot blocked by Nicolas Frey.
A
second fast drive from Hernanes was saved on 69, and Bizzarri also denied a
free-kick from the Brazilian with 10 minutes left.
The
flooring of substitute Juan Cuadrado from Bostjan Cesar led to the penalty
converted by Dybala in the 83rd minute.
"They
found a goal with a single shot. We gave all we had, we levelled, but I think
we deserved the three points," Dybala said. "We must improve. We are
many new players, we improved but we must being to win."
Elsewhere,
the in-form Verona underdogs took an early lead from Perparim Hetemaj and held
on until Paulo Dybala converted a late penalty.
They
moved on seven points and lead on goal difference Roma, who beat Frosinone 2-0.
Iago
Falque deflected in off a throw-in on 44 minutes and substitute Juan Iturbe drilled
home in injury time to seal Roma's win as the hosts stayed on zero.
Ten-man
Fiorentina beat guests Genoa 1-0 and sit on six along with Torino, Inter Milan,
Sassuolo and Palermo.
Khouma
Babacar nodded home the winner on the hour, four minutes before the dismissal
of midfielder Milan Badelj after a second booking.
