The Greek talent has never settled in at the Stadium of Light.
Reports in Italy today are suggesting that a Serie A side may be on the verge of making a move for a Sunderland flop, that Black Cats fans may have forgotten even existed.
They report that the Italian side, who have seemingly secured their place in Serie A again next season, are looking to expand the size of their current squad - with Mavrias one target.
The Greek international joined Sunderland from Panathinaikos in 2013. The fee was undisclosed, but Sky Sports reported it was in the region of £3 million.
He went on to become yet another Paolo Di Canio flop. He played just six times for the club, scoring one goal, and in fairness was not performing badly for a then teenager signed from another country.
But he dropped out of contention and was loaned back to Panathinaikos in the summer.
Now it looks like the 21-year-old might have been given a second chance to shine in a top European league - and put his Sunderland nightmare behind him.
