In a first of a kind experience, thousands of children along with dignitaries from the Government of India came together to celebrate the launch of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 Trophy Experience in the capital city of New Delhi.
The official winner’s trophy for FIFA U-17 World Cup was placed at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi earlier today. More than 700 children taking part in the Mission XI Million festival, part of the tournament’s legacy programme, got a chance to see the trophy up close.
“The winner’s trophy for what will be the first FIFA tournament in India will embark upon an incredible journey starting today and it’s a really special moment for all of us to be here,” said Minister of Sports for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Vijay Goel at the curtain-raiser for the Trophy Experience. "All fans of the game get to take a picture with it, to be with something the world will fight for in less than 50 days. I hope more and more people come and be a part of it." Also present at the event were the U-17 World Cup LOC's Tournament Director, LOC, Javier Ceppi and Project Director, Joy Bhattacharjya.
The winner’s trophy is set to tour all six tournament host cities over the next five weeks, and football fans and families across India are invited to be part of the Trophy Experience. The idea behind it is to give Indians a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see the FIFA U-17 World Cup Winner’s trophy up close.

On Sunday 20 August, the trophy will be placed at India Gate, where residents from the capital will be able to come and see the silverware that India 2017's winning team will lift on 28 October.
