Real Madrid claimed a dramatic 3-2 Super Cup win over Sevilla

Dani Carvajal scored a brilliant solo effort a minute before the end of extra-time as Real Madrid defeated compatriots Sevilla 3-2 to lift he 2016 UEFA Super Cup at the Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim, Norway on Tuesday, APA reports.

Youngster Marco Asensio had given Real the lead with a sublime strike in the first half, but Sevilla hit back after the break through Franco Vasquez and a penalty from substitute Yevhen Konoplyanka.

Sergio Ramos took the game to extra-time with an equaliser three minutes into injury-time, before Sevilla were reduced to 10 men soon after the start of the extra 30 minutes following a red card for Timothée Kolodziejczak.

And Carvajal claimed the trophy for the UEFA Champions League winners with a fantastic solo run that saw him beat three defenders and then provide a neat finish to break Sevilla hearts.

Real were without star names Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, but started brightly enough and were rewarded with the lead on 21 minutes.

Asensio is seen as a genuine rising star of Spanish football and after spending the last two seasons on loan at Mallorca and Espanyol, is now looking to break into the Real first team.

He did his cause no harm with a magnificent goal as he smashed the ball home from 30-yards with an excellent individual effort.

Sevilla drew level four minutes before halftime though as Vasquez, a recent arrival from Palermo, volleyed home a fine equaliser.

And Sevilla took the lead with 20 minutes to play when Ramos brought down Vitolo in the box and Konoplyanka converted from 12 yards.

It looked as though they would hold on to their advantage until the third minute of injury-time when Ramos headed home to send the game to extra-time.

Sevilla were reduced to 10 men when Kolodziejczak received his second yellow card with just three minutes of the additional 30 having been played.

Real thought they had the lead when Ramos turned the ball home again in the first half of extra-time, but the goal was ruled out for an infringement by the Spanish international, much to his annoyance.

But Real did get their goal as Carvajal provided a slalom-like run and shot as the scythed through the Sevilla defence to net a worthy winner a minute from the end.
