The man who drove a lorry through a crowd of people in Nice, killing at least 84, has been named as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel by a French newspaper.
He was shot dead after driving for hundreds of metres along the Promenade des Anglais, while people celebrating Bastille Day watched fireworks.
The terror suspect has been named as 31-year-old Bouhlel by local newspaper Nice-Matin. He had been a father for three years.
The latest terrorist attack on France has rocked the nation and it is thought the death toll is likely to rise.
This is what we know about the lorry driver. An identity card found inside the heavy vehicle belonged to a Tunisian-born Frenchman, born in 1985, who lived in Nice.
Investigators say the suspect has been formally identified and the identity card does belong to the driver.
Police raids have taken place at his home in the city.
Police had previously dealt with the man in connection with crimes involving violence, weapons offences and theft.
However, he was not on the radar of French intelligence services and there had been no suggestion of his involvement with terrorism.
A search of the white lorry uncovered firearms including a pistol, a larger gun, fake weapons and grenades – which are also believed to be fake.
Reports suggest the driver opened fire on the crowd as he drove, using a 7.65 calibre pistol.
He also returned fire on police before officers gunned him down.
It is believed he hired the truck and travelled to Nice from hills outside the town.
Some reports suggest he accessed the Promenade des Anglais by telling police he was delivering ice cream.
Conflicting reports in the French media suggest he smashed through barriers that had been placed to close the promenade off to traffic.
It is thought he acted alone.
