Brisbane Roar demolished Global FC 6-0 to progress to the final round of qualifying for the prestigious AFC Champions League tournament.
The Australian outfit were certainly the more fancied team heading into this encounter and they were clinical in disposing of the Filipino Association Football Club that are based in Cebu City.
Four goals from Australian U23 talent, Brandon Borrello, and a brace from Manuel Arana saw the A-League side breeze past their ASEAN opponents to set up an eagerly anticipated play-off clash with Chinese heavyweights Shanghai Shenhua on the eighth of February.
Following the defeat, Global, who beat Singapore’s Tampines Rovers last week to set up the clash with Brisbane, will now compete in the AFC Cup.
Coached by John Aloisi, Brisbane were quite magnificent on the day.
Not only did they get their tactics spot on, but their players also seemed technically and physically superior to the opposition.
Aloisi will be hoping that his group can repeat this performance against Shanghai. If they are able to do that, they will have every chance of progressing.
