Portugal drops tax fraud probe Scolari

Portuguese authorities have closed a tax fraud probe into former Brazil and Portgual football coach Luiz Felipe Scolari after he paid three million euros ($3.4 million), officials said.
Scolari was charged with tax fraud a month before the 2014 World Cup kicked off in his native Brazil while he was coach of the national team.
The closure of the investigation was posted on Portugal`s public ministry website.
The charges related to between 2003 and 2007 when Scolari was Portugal`s coach and hinged on an alleged failure to declare income from image rights.
According to press reports, the amount of non-declared funds was 7.4 million euros.
Scolari coached Brazil to their World Cup triumph in 2002 and returned to the national side for the campaign on home territory which they were favourites to win.
But he resigned as national coach after Brazil suffered a humiliating 7-1 humbling by Germany in the World Cup semi-finals.
He also took Portugal to the Euro 2004 final and 2006 World Cup semi-finals.
He is now manager of Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande with whom he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract in June

Manchester United and Manchester City come from behind to beat Bundesliga opposition

Wednesday round-up: Cristiano Ronaldo reached another two milestones, Astana earned their first point and Manchester United and Manchester City both got off the mark.

Group A
Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Paris Saint-Germain

Laurent Blanc's side, unbeaten in all competitions this season, made it two wins out of two in Group A. Serge Aurier – on his competition debut – and David Luiz struck in the first half before a late own goal added gloss to the scoreline.
Malmö 0-2 Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo racked up his 500th senior career goal in the first half and then drew level with Raúl González on 323 for the Merengues alone, equalling the club's all-time scoring record

Group B
Manchester United 2-1 Wolfsburg
Though Daniel Caligiuri's fourth-minute goal put United – beaten by PSV Eindhoven on matchday one – on the back foot, the Premier League leaders railled and prevailed through Juan Mata's penalty and Chris Smalling's close-range finish.

CSKA Moskva 3-2 PSV Eindhoven
Seydou Doumbia scored two inside the first 36 minutes – after Ahmed Musa's early opener – but then missed a penalty. He was nearly made to pay, PSV pulling two back through Maxime Lestienne yet still falling short
Group C
Astana 2-2 Galatasaray
Astana, hosting Kazakhstan's first ever group stage game, trailed twice but ultimately picked up a point courtesy of two own goals in the closing 14 minutes.
Atlético Madrid 1-2 Benfica
The visitors recorded their first victory against Spanish opposition since 1982 – despite going behind midway through the first half. Nicolás Gaitán and Gonçalo Guedes were on the mark for the Eagles.

Group D
Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-2 Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini's side were yet another team to come from behind and collect three points. They left it a little later than most, Sergio Agüero keeping his nerve from the penalty spot in the last minute of normal time.
Juventus 2-0 Sevilla
Last season's runners-up continue to struggle in Serie A but have no such problems in Europe. Álvaro Morata netted for the fifth straight UEFA Champions League match and substitute Simone Zaza got in on the act late on.

Borussia Dortmund stars miss Salonika Europa

                                                   Shinji Kagawa

Borussia Dortmund have left Mats Hummels, Shinji Kagawa, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sokratis and Ilkay Gundogan behind for Thursday's Europa League clash at PAOK Salonika ahead of this weekend's Bayern Munich showdown.

Second-placed Dortmund are at Pep Guardiola's German league leaders on Sunday with the hosts going into the Allianz Arena clash with a four-point lead.

Bayern have won all seven of their league games so far this season, while unbeaten Dortmund have missed out on maximum points by drawing their past two matches.

Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel has left his captain Hummels behind, also opting to rest playmaker Kagawa and top-scorer Aubameyang who has scored in each of their seven games so far.

"We need to keep an eye on the load put on the players," said Tuchel as Dortmund will have played 14 games in 65 days by the time they play Bayern.

The likes of new signings Gonzalo Castro, South Korea's Park Joo-Ho and Belgian rising star Adnan Januzaj are set to make the starting line-up as Dortmund hunt a second straight win in their Europa League group.

Brazilian football referee Gabriel Murta facing lifetime ban after pulling a gun on angry manager

According to the Mirror, referee Gabriel Murta was assaulted by players of lower league side Amantes de Bola who kicked and slapped him before the manager invaded the pitch demanding one of the opposing players should be sent off.
Apparently Murta is a policeman by trade which explains (sort of) why, when he felt under threat, he ran to the changing room to pick up his gun in order to defend himself on the pitch.
Giuliano Bozzano of referees’ association released an official statement to reveal that Gabriel Murta was to undergo ‘psychological assessment’ today to decide whether he deserves a suspension or a lifetime ban.
The above footage was captured by supporters who attended the amateur game in Brumadinho which is close to Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
‘The Minais Gerais Football Federation has already summonsed [sic] the referee and a psychologist to a meeting and I’m going to talk with him today,’ said Bozzano.
‘On the basis of that conversation and his account of events and the results of the psychological assessment I’ll decide what if any measures to take.
‘What’s happened is obviously not a common occurrence and I don’t want to rush into anything.
‘At the moment it happened he’s opted for getting his gun because in his view it was a question of controlling a situation

BATE Borisov shock Roma and Olympiacos win at Arsenal

BATE Borisov and Olympiacos secured surprise wins while two late Barcelona goals avoided another shock on a night where Robert Lewandowski kept up his hot scoring streak.

Group E
Barcelona 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
Held by Roma on matchday one and without the injured Lionel Messi, the holders were struggling when Leverkusen took the lead through Kyriakos Papadopoulos on 22 minutes and held it for nearly an hour. But with ten minutes to go substitute Sergi Roberto made it 1-1 and almost instantly LuisSuárez clinched victory for Barcelona, who go top.

BATE Borisov 3-2 Roma
BATE halted a run of five straight group losses yet they were made to sweat. The Belarusian champions were 3-0 up in 30 minutes, Igor Stasevich's opener being followed by two from Filip Mladenović. However, Gervinho gave Roma hope and with eight minutes left Vasilis Torosidis set up a nervous finish.

Group F
Bayern München 5-0 Dinamo Zagreb
Having scored seven in his last two Bundesliga games, Robert Lewandowski carried that form into Europe with a hat-trick in a comfortable win that ended Dinamo Zagreb's 45-match unbeaten competitive record. His treble also took Bayern three points clear of their fellow matchday one victors.

Arsenal 2-3 Olympiacos
Arsenal remain without a point after an extraordinary contest in London. Felipe Pardo put the visitors ahead with a deflected shot on 33 minutes but immediately Theo Walcott levelled. Olympiacos led at half-time when Kostas Fortounis's corner was fumbled in by David Ospina and although Alexis Sánchez equalised in the 65th minute, substitute Alfred Finnbogasonsmashed in the winne

Group G
Maccabi Tel-Aviv 0-2 Dynamo Kyiv
Andriy Yarmolenko and Júnior Moraes registered early in each half for Dynamo to move them onto four points and leave Maccabi still yet to get off the mark.

Porto 2-1 Chelsea
Iker Casillas's record-breaking 152nd UEFA club competition appearance proved happier than José Mourinho's latest return to Porto. Although André André's opener late in the first half was cancelled out by Willian's free-kick just prior to the interval, Maicon settled matters on 52 minutes to lift Porto level with Dynamo at the top, a point clear of Chelsea.

Group H
Olympique Lyonnais 0-1 Valencia
French-born midfielder Sofiane Feghouli's 42nd-minute strike gave the points to Valencia in a game where both teams hit the woodwork more than once.

Zenit 2-1 Gent
Zenit occupy pole position, three points above Valencia, after Hulk laid on goals for Artem Dzyuba and Oleg Shatov either side of a Thomas Matton strike.

Frosinone win first ever Serie A game

A second-half brace from Federico Dionisi in a 2-0 defeat of Empoli earned Frosinone an historic first Serie A win on Monday, as Sampdoria were stunned 2-1 away to Atalanta.
A second-half brace from Federico Dionisi in a 2-0 defeat of Empoli earned Frosinone an historic first Serie A win on Monday (Sep 28), as Sampdoria were stunned 2-1 away to Atalanta.
Frosinone have made a dubious start to life in Italy's top flight, although last season's Serie B runners-up hit the headlines last week for holding champions Juventus to a 1-1 draw.
Roberto Stellone's men were overjoyed after claiming their first ever Serie A point in Turin, and the coach - a former Torino player - was just as ecstatic after a maiden win that moved Frosinone out of the bottom three to 16th, just one point behind struggling Juventus.
"We've taken three points that are very important for us in terms of the league standings, and our morale," said Stellone. "We're no longer last in the table and it's important to have beaten a side that, in my opinion, will be fighting along with us for top flight survival at the end of the season."
Sampdoria travelled to Bergamo looking to build on last week's precious 2-1 win over scudetto hopefuls Roma.
But Walter Zenga's men fell behind to a Niklas Moisander own goal in the seventh minute and German Denis wrapped up the points in the first minute of injury time after beating the offside trap to fire Maxi Moralez's through ball past Emiliano Viviano.

Samp midfielder Roberto Soriano hit a late consolation, but it was not enough to stop the visitors conceding a second defeat of the season that saw them drop to ninth, one point behind Atalanta and five behind leaders Fiorentina.

Romeku Lukaku double inspires Everton comeback

Romelu Lukaku came back to haunt West Bromwich Albion as he inspired a stunning second-half comeback from Everton in a 3-2 Barclays Premier League win at The Hawthorns on Monday night.
Roberto Martinez's side appeared to be heading for defeat after seeing the Baggies take a 2-0 lead through Saido Berahino and Craig Dawson, which looked to have put them on the verge of a third win in four BPL matches.
However, Lukaku - who spent a season on loan at The Hawthorns in 2012/13 - pulled a goal back just a minute after Dawson's goal before playing in substitute Arouna Kone to fire home a 75th-minute equaliser.
And the turnaround was completed six minutes from time when Lukaku tapped home Gerard Deulofeu's cross at the second attempt to send Everton up to fifth in the table ahead of next Sunday's Merseyside derby.
A keenly fought opening 25 minutes was followed by a setback for West Brom when centre-back Jonas Olsson - who replaced Gareth McAuley in the starting XI - limped off with an injury, with James Chester taking his spot in the backline.
The contest sprung into life late in the first half when Berahino capitalised on some poor Everton defending to open the scoring.
Ramon Funes Mori and Gareth Barry combined to surrender possession in midfield and James Morrison then threaded a perfectly placed pass into the path of Berahino to finish past Tim Howard.
James McClean fired over from the edge of the area at the end of a quick West Brom counter three minutes after the restart before Howard did well to keep out Darren Fletcher's far-post header.
But from the resulting corner, Dawson lost his marker and met Chris Brunt's delivery with a header that went down into the ground and beyond a stricken Howard.
Everton responded 27 seconds after the restart, though, as Lukaku rose high above Chester and turned a pinpoint right-wing cross from Deulofeu beyond the diving Boaz Myhill.
Martinez's men struggled to craft opportunities to level the scores but the introduction of Kone - brought on for Steven Naismith - proved pivotal. The Ivory Coast international sprung the offside trap from Lukaku's neat through ball and lashed a strike into the bottom-left corner.
And there was to be one final twist in the tale, which came as Lukaku latched on to another fine Deulofeu delivery, following up a first touch by squeaking the ball in at the near post to complete an impressive fightback.
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis: "We get the second goal and all we've got to do is sit tight and be nice and solid for 10 minutes. The defending off the set plays was awful. We were still celebrating [after Dawson's goal], you have to get the ball back and take the sting out of the game. We gave them the opportunity. We had the game in our hands and we gave it to Everton really."
Everton manager Roberto Martinez: "[We showed] Incredible character to come back and get a win. After conceding two goals we had to show a lot of character a lot of desire to improve. We never gave up. To score three goals from open play against West Brom speaks volumes of the quality [in our side]. We knew it was a real good test, to be able to break them [West Brom] down and get the three points you have to put a lot of things together."

Greek Super League..Panathinaikos beats Platanias 1-0

Panathinaikos fans booed their own team as the Greek title contenders labored to a 1-0 victory over last-place Platanias on Sunday.
Facing a team that had only managed a draw in its four previous league games this season, Abdul Ajagun scored the winner with a shot from 25 meters (yards) in first half injury time.
The lackluster victory means that Panathinaikos remains second in the table, three points behind Olympiakos after its 5-1 win over Kalloni on Saturday, and two ahead of PAOK, which beat host Atromitos 2-1 on Sunday.
Also, Levadiakos beat Asteras 2-1 and Panthrakikos snatched a 1-1 draw at Panionios in the very last minute.
Veria hosts AEK Athens on Monday.

Fiorentina beat Inter 4-1 to move top of Serie A

Inter Milan’s perfect record this season was left in tatters on Sunday after Fiorentina triumphed 4-1 at San Siro to move top of Serie A.

Nikola Kalinic scored a hat trick and also won a penalty which Josip Ilicic converted for the fourth-minute opener. Mauro Icardi netted a consolation goal for 10-man Inter on the hour mark.
Inter had only conceded one goal in its first five Serie A matches but found itself 3-0 down after 23 minutes in a nightmare first half for the home side, which also had Joao Miranda sent off in the 31st minute.
Fiorentina moved above Inter on goal difference. It is the first time the Tuscan side has been top of Serie A since February 1999 — after beating AC Milan.
Inter and Fiorentina both have 15 points, two more than Torino after it held on for a 2-1 win over Palermo despite ending the match with nine men.
Sassuolo, which drew 1-1 against Chievo Verona, is a point further back. Lazio also has 12 points after the capital side came from behind with 10 men to win 2-1 at Hellas Verona for the first time in 24 years.
Marco Parolo snatched Lazio’s late winner, minutes after the dismissal of defender Mauricio for a second yellow card.
Udinese also came from behind to win by the same scoreline at Bologna, ending a four-match losing streak, while 10-man AC Milan lost 1-0 at Genoa.
It was first against second at San Siro, with Inter full of confidence after winning its first five matches.
However, it got off to a dismal start as Samir Handanovic conceded an early penalty. The Inter goalkeeper’s first touch let him down as he failed to collect a backpass and then barged Kalinic over as he attempted to grab the ball back.
It was the first time Inter had been behind all season and it found itself 2-0 down in the 18th.
Handanovic flew to punch clear Ilicic’s effort from distance but it looped up behind him and Kalinic reacted quickest to burst forward and help it in.
Kalinic doubled his tally five minutes later, sliding in to turn home Marcos Alonso’s cross after the Spanish defender had waltzed past Ivan Perisic on the left flank.
Matters went from bad to worse for Inter as any hopes of getting back into the match evaporated with the dismissal of Miranda for hauling down Kalinic after a through ball had sent him clear on goal.
Inter pulled one back when Icardi headed Alex Telles’ free kick onto the base of the left post and then tapped home the rebound.
But Fiorentina restored its three-goal advantage in the 76th when Kalinic won a tussle with Davide Santon and found Slovenia’s Ilicic, who drew defenders toward him before squaring the ball back for the Croatian to complete his hat trick.

Cabaye spot on in Crystal Palace victory

Yohan Cabaye scored from the penalty spot 19 minutes from time to earn Crystal Palace a 1-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday.
Substitute Wilfried Zaha was crucial in earning the decisive foul from Allan Nyom, allowing Cabaye to convert and get Palace back to winning ways in the Barclays Premier League following narrow defeats by Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Having made a solid start to life in the BPL, Watford were targeting a third straight top-flight win for the first time since April 1987 against their Championship play-off final foes of two years ago.
After a cagey start, Jose Manuel Jurado and Dwight Gayle each saw efforts strike the crossbar in a more entertaining second period.
But the match turned on Nyom's clumsy challenge 71 minutes in, the Watford full-back unable to deal with Zaha's pace and trickery before Cabaye duly kept his cool to earn victory and send Alan Pardew's team up to sixth in the table.
Buoyed by recent victories over Swansea City and Newcastle United, an unchanged Watford started strongly against a Palace side showing a host of changes from their narrow defeat at Spurs last weekend.
Wayne Hennessey, Joe Ledley and the fit-again Scott Dann all returned, while Gayle was handed a first league start of the season as Brede Hangeland had the first effort on target with a header kept out by Heurelho Gomes.
That proved to be a rare foray forward for Palace however, as Watford enjoyed the better of the play before the half-hour mark, Troy Deeney going close with a glancing header.
Palace almost capitalised on a series of Watford fouls around the edge of the area but Cabaye's delivery just evaded Gayle, before the Frenchman lost possession and allowed Watford to break, with Hangeland required to clear and deny Odion Ighalo a sight of goal.
Both Flores and Pardew kept faith with their XIs at the interval but it was Watford who remained the more threatening, Almen Abdi testing Hennessey down to his right after smart play between Deeney and Ighalo and Jurado hitting the Palace crossbar inside three minutes of the restart with an impressive free-kick.
Bakary Sako's deflected free-kick also caused problems for Gomes on the hour before the winger found Gayle inside the area, only for Palace this time to be thwarted by the crossbar.
While Yannick Bolasie's new contract will have had the visiting fans in high spirits ahead of Sunday's encounter, it was the introduction of fellow winger Zaha that proved crucial for Pardew as the substitute bamboozled Nyom down the left side of the area.
Cabaye tucked away the resultant penalty to claim the points with the visitors' first league goal since their shock win at Chelsea last month.
Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores: "We didn't feel comfortable in the match and we had the feeling that Palace were closing the space.
"We tried to switch the ball but we had difficulty in attempts as they stopped us well in the middle.
"They also ran the counter-attack so it was very difficult for us in the first half, we had problems trying to stop their skilful players.
"In general during the match we felt more uncomfortable than at other times [this season]."
Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew: "It was a great day. Our concentration levels were very high today and our two centre-halves did a super job. There was also some really good wide play and that ended up settling the game.
"We've got good players for an away team, because we've got pace. But I said to the guys 'don't retreat today, take the game to them'.
"We didn't concede any ground to Watford and in the end we found pockets to exploit. We have [Marouane] Chamakh and [Connor] Wickham injuries. They're two major players, they're like [Daniel] Sturridge and [Christian] Benteke at Liverpool for us."

South Melbourne Hellas wins WPL Championship

Sportsmart WPL Grand Final decided on penalties
South Melbourne Hellas  secured back-to-back Sportsmart Women's Premier League titles on Sunday with a 5-4 penalty shootout win in a classic contest at the Veneto Club that ended 2-2 at the end of extra-time.
A double to Taryne Boudreau had the Eagles twice in the lead, only for South to twice claw back the deficit through Carol Howes and an own goal.
Despite the action in extra-time and the final moments of regular side, the majority of the contest was error-ridden with most of the openings for either side the direct result of mistakes.
Even then, capitalising on those chances seemed a tough ask as both sides struggled with their decision-making, albeit the Eagles were able to find one early.
Two of the Eagles’ superstars in reigning Gold Medalist Amy Jackson and Canadian forward Taryne Boudreau combined in the fourth minute for the opener as the latter latched onto the former’s free-kick.
Hellas had a number of early chances scattered around Boroondara’s goal; Lisa Farquhar, Ali Baker and Brittany Dudley-Smith exchanging passes early only for the latter to be called offside despite baring down on Anna Lanning in goal.
They had chances to equalise soon after through Dudley-Smith – who lacked the conviction to fully trouble Lanning with her seventh minute effort – and Natalie Martineau – who was foiled at the near post by the keeper.
A spate of half chances fell the Eagles’ way with the table-toppers enjoying plenty of joy from wide positions, but failed to capitalise further on their lead.
A slip from Jessie Pritchard at the half-way line allowed Aliesha Newman time and space to stream through with support on either side of her.
In the end, she wasted the three-on-one opportunity by using Boudreau on her left, who was narrowly offside.
Newman had the chance to shoot herself soon after, but poked her effort wide of the left post after being played in by Boudreau.
Eliadis and Baker wrapped their right foot around shots from outside the box which both curled wide, while Boudreau at the other end provided the final highlight of the half, shimmying left and right, clearing her right boot before skimming a weak shot into Frances Land.
There was improvement in the second half as both sides found a bit more rhythm to their play.
Eliadis latched onto a Jamie Pollock ball early in the first half but couldn’t muster the power behind the shot to beat Lanning.
Their captain Alex Cheal let up at the back with a loose header, which saw her compete in a foot race with Jackson for possession, to which she redeemed herself well, corralling the ball safely into Land’s arms.
The pressure began to build on the Eagles defence, and a scramble from a corner kick saw South come fractions away from their equaliser as first Eliadis then Lines were denied by the keeper.
But with just 20 minutes remaining in the game, South found their goal through Carol Howes who embarked on a barnstorming run on the right, before selling Lanning with a feign before finishing to the near post, sending the South support into raptures.
South’s equaliser paved the way for a hotly-contested final 20 minutes of the contest, which saw chances aplenty as both sides sniffed a winner.
Dudley-Smith came close in the 73rd minute with a dinked effort over the onrushing Lanning, which floated inches wide of the post.
Land at the other end was putting herself to good use, charging forward with purpose to smother Boudreau’s shot from a wide left position, who had earlier nicked possession off Martineau.
The end-to-end pattern of chances continued as a Farquhar corner found the head of Pollock who headed straight at the keeper.
Cheal was the next to go close, albeit in the wrong net as confusion between her and Land resulted in the ball cannoning off her and towards goal although it rolled just wide.
It would have been a cruel way of losing the contest so late in the piece, as it would have if Amy Jackson’s 90th minute free-kick had beaten Land, but the keeper was up to the task.
Instead extra-time beckoned, where we saw two goals struck within the first 10 minutes of the first period.
Despite being all of 30-yards out, Boudreau utilized the space and time offered to her by striking into the top left corner of the net, leaving Land no chance.
Only a minute later and Hellas had their equaliser, as a cross from the left side from Lines was deflected towards goal by a Gummer header, which hit the crossbar and cruelly bounced off Lanning and into goals.
Another glorious chance fell Boroondara’s way courtesy of Tasmanian NTC product Lucy Johnstone who rattled the crossbar with a vicious right footed strike, which struck the bar and the ground before being claimed by the keeper.
Eliadis’ free-kick in the 105th minute floated narrowly over the bar despite the triumphant reaction from the crowd.
The second half of extra time saw enough action to span an entire game of its own, as the two goals were rubbed out, the crossbar was struck and a gilt-edged chance missed on the way towards penalty kicks.
A Liv Ellis cross in the 115th minute was turned into goals for what the Eagles thought was finally their winner, although it was ruled out for a foul in the process.
Boudreau then thought she’d secured her hat-trick after turning Jackson’s free-kick into goals in the 199th minute, but for the second time in four minutes, the referees whistle put stop to the claim.
The final piece of action before spot kicks saw Amy Jackson hit the crossbar – the third person in extra-time to do so – from a 25-yard free-kick, which then saw Boudreau miss the chance to write headlines, inexplicably blazing the rebound over the net from all of five-yards out.
Each side had a penalty saved within their allotted five spot-kicks, Alex Gummer’s low shot was thwarted by Land; Land’s penalty herself stopped by Anna Lanning to deny Hellas the title. But a Rani Cavarretta miss gave captain Cheal the opportunity to win the game with their sixth spot kick, finishing with aplomb to the sheer delight of her teammates.
An absolute classic contest drew fitting end to the final ever edition of the Women’s Premier League
With Alex Gummer and Frances Land getting their penalties saved and Rani Cavarretta missing hers, it paved the way for skipper Alex Cheal to secure the title, coolly placing her spot-kick past Lanning for the victory.
